Our mission

The LightBridge Project's goal is to bridge a gap in available resources for children of a caregiver who is experiencing physical or medical trauma. Our vision is to provide a starting point for children to process this specific trauma and for parents to know how to support their children by providing a bag including comfort items, carefully selected age-appropriate books with a reading list of additional options, and activities, in addition to community resource handouts for therapy services and support

The key themes of our work to support children and their families are:

  • Normalizing feelings

  • Encouraging communication

  • Acknowledging the trauma

  • Providing hope for healing

  • Emphasizing safety

Our why

When a patient arrived after a significant motor vehicle accident with severe, life-changing injuries, their spouse struggled to explain what had happened to their elementary-aged child. Resources to help families cope with the specific realities of physical trauma were scarce. That experience inspired our team to explore meaningful ways to support this family and others facing similar challenges.
